About the Founder?
Zimvo Mmbo, the heart and soul behind Helping Them Help Themselves, is a woman whose life’s journey has been defined by compassion, resilience, and an unshakable commitment to others. Having grown up without the close presence of her family, Zimvo found herself drawn to those who, like her, needed someone to lean on. Even as a young girl, she became a natural caregiver to those around her, offering a listening ear and a helping hand to children and families facing difficult circumstances.
From a young age, Zimvo was surrounded by people in need, and it didn’t take long for her to realize that this was more than coincidence—it was her calling. As a child, she wished that someone would come and ease the burdens of the people she saw struggling. Little did she know, she would grow into the person destined to be that help. Her heart couldn’t turn away from the children who lacked school supplies or the families who struggled to make ends meet. So, instead of donating to institutions, she chose to directly invest her earnings in making tangible differences in the lives of the children in her community, buying them shoes, school bags, and the supplies they so desperately needed.
What started as small acts of kindness soon grew into something much larger. Over the years, Zimvo realized that her greatest joy came from lifting others out of hardship, even if it was one person at a time. Though the weight of so much need was often overwhelming, she pressed on, driven by the belief that no act of kindness is too small. Each child she helped, each elderly person she visited, filled her heart with purpose and strengthened her resolve to keep going, no matter the challenges.
But Zimvo’s journey hasn’t been without struggle. She often found herself stretched thin, emotionally and financially, wishing she could do more, give more. Yet, even in the toughest moments, she remained steadfast, trusting that helping one person could create a ripple of hope that would extend far beyond what she could see.
